Why do you think a larger legislative majority is required to override a presidential veto than to p a bill?

It's part of the checks and balances system of the US. If Congress pes a bill, the President can check their power by vetoing. In the same fashion, if the bill is actually a really good one, then Congress should be able to work up a 2/3 majority in each house, thus checking the President's power.
